Lt Col. Nana Kofi Twumasi-Ankrah, RHG, MVO
Lieutenant Colonel Nana Twumasi-Ankrah has been a commissioned officer for 20 years, enjoying a broad range of experience both within a Military setting and x-Govt departments, gaining a unique depth and breadth of skills which provide a sound foundation in leadership and diplomacy at all levels.
He spent most of his early career at Regimental Duty, deploying on Op TELIC 4 (Mar-Oct 2004) AND Op HERRICK 8 (Jun- Aug 2008). Prior to ICSC(L), he commanded the Blues and Royals Mounted Squadron (2009 – 2011) of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment and deployed on Op HERRICK 15 (Nov 2011- May 2012) as the Principal Staff Officer. He later commanded D Squadron (Sqn) of the Household Cavalry Regiment (HCR) (June 2015 - June 2017) and provided the Armoured Cavalry Regiment (ACR) with the conceptual link to 16 Air Assault (AA) Bde. Nana also led a Short-Term Training Team (STTT) to Latvia as part of Op TACET for 3 UK Division. Nana was appointed as the SO2 to the Army Engagement Group (AEG) from 2013 – 2015 and was responsible for the communication of Army Policy nationally in specially developed presentations to Defence and Civil Industry; Commerce and Finance; other Government Departments and targeted Social Groups. Concurrently, for six months, he stepped up as Chief of Staff for AEG and presented on CGS’ Internal Briefing Team.
Nana was appointed to The Royal Household (Aug 2017- Dec 2020) as the Equerry to Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for over 3 years. The role was varied and challenging, involving Nana working on Her Majesty’s personal staff, assisting The Queen during public and private events at various Royal residences and during public visits. In addition to his Equerry duties, for a 5-month period from March to July 2020, Nana was seconded as the Military Assistant to the General Officer Commanding, the Joint Military Command London, which over-saw the Military Assistance to Civil Authority in London during the COVID pandemic. He deployed on Op TORAL (Feb-Sept 21) as Military Assistant to the Senior British Military Representative and Deputy Advisor to the Ministerial Advisory Group in Kabul. On returning from Afghanistan, he was seconded to International Plans and Security at the Ministry of Defence where he worked on the Afghanistan Policy team overseeing the transition from Op TORAL to Op PITTING and the Phase 1 of the Afghan Relocation Program.
Nana currently Commands the Outreach Group (OGp), in which role he has been privileged to support a wide range of global Operations.
Nana lives with his wife and is married with 3 children and enjoys current affairs and fine food.
