20 Marathons - Fund Raising

Run of Remembrance: 20 Marathons for Commonwealth Women during WW1 and WW2

In 2025, I will embark on a transformative journey – the running equivalent of 20 marathons – to honour the strength of Commonwealth women during WW1 and WW2. This challenge is a tribute to the brave women who served in the British Armed Forces from the UK, Africa, the Caribbean, and the Indian subcontinent (Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka). It also recognises the countless women - often forgotten in history - who managed households and communities while their partners and family members were away, bravely fighting for the British Armed Forces.

The Journey
  • Distance & Commitment: I’ll be running a distance equivalent to 20 marathons over the course of the year, with each run serving as a powerful reminder of the resilience these women exhibited.
  • Monthly Updates: Every month, I will share progress updates that not only track the distance covered but also highlight historical sites and stories - such as the inspiring tale behind landmarks like Ladies Bridge in London - that capture the spirit of these extraordinary women.
  • Symbolic Weight: Carrying the legacy of their courage and determination, each mile I complete is a step towards preserving and celebrating their stories.

Why It Matters
Commonwealth women faced unparalleled challenges during the World Wars. Many served on the front lines in various capacities, while others maintained the fabric of daily life at home - ensuring that families, communities, and the nation endured despite the absence of their loved ones. Their strength, ingenuity, and perseverance are legacies that deserve to be remembered and celebrated.

I invite you to follow along with my monthly updates, where I will share progress reports along with insights and stories from historical landmarks that commemorate these women's contributions. Together, we can honour their sacrifices and ensure that their contributions continue to inspire future generations.

This run is more than a personal challenge - it is a living memorial to the unshakeable spirit of Commonwealth women. Let’s celebrate their legacy and remember that every step taken in their honour brings us closer to understanding the true meaning of resilience.
