12 March 2018: Commemorating the contribution of Caribbean soldiers in WWI & The British West Indian Regiment
The British West Indian Regiment (BWIR) was a unit of the British Army formed from volunteers from British colonies in the Caribbean. The 1st of 10 Battalions was formed in September 1915. By the end of the war more than 15,500 West Indians had joined the BWIR and had experienced military service in England, Italy, Eygpt, India, france, Belguim, Palestine, Mesopotamia and east Africa.
