Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how the Memorial Gates Council collects, uses and shares your personal information, as well as provides an explanation of the data rights you may have.
Memorial Gates Council
The Memorial Gates Council is a not for profit organisation whose primary purpose is to plan, coordinate and host annual commemorations for the men and women from Africa, the Caribbean and the Indian subcontinent (Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka) who volunteered to serve with the British Armed Forces during the First and Second World Wars. The Memorial Gates Council is responsible for the personal information it collects about you and how it uses this information. When we do so, we are regulated under the General Data Protection Regulations, which applies across the United Kingdom. We are responsible as the ‘controller’ of that personal information for the purposes of those laws.
The Information We Collect and Use
When we collect personal information, it is because we have your permission and we have a justified business reason for doing so. For example, collecting enough information to manage invitations to our remembrance events, education and fundraising initiatives.
The personal data we collect might include your name, date of birth, email address, postal address and telephone number. Wherever possible we use aggregated or anonymous information, which does not identify individual visitors to our websites. We delete your information securely once we no longer need it. We will never sell or share your data to third party organisations. However, we may be required to disclose your personal data for the purposes of national security, criminal investigation or taxation with law or UK government enforcement agencies. We will only disclose data when obliged to do so by law or we have your consent.
Third Party Data Collection

The third party platform will process your data in line with their privacy and cookie policies. In such circumstances, you will be able to update your cookie preferences directly on the third party platform. You will not be able to update your preferences through the Memorial Gates Council. For example, when you visit the Memorial Gates Twitter, Instagram or Facebook pages these platforms may place cookies on your browsing device subject to their cookie and privacy policies. You are able to control the settings of any non-essential cookies on these sites by logging into your relevant social media account.

Where we ask for your consent to process your personal information, we will use clear plain language so you can fully understand what you are consenting to. We will tell you what we will be doing with the information and explain your right to withdraw consent and how you can do that. We will only use the personal information you have provided for the purpose we have gained your consent for. We may also ask you to confirm that you still consent where a considerable period of time has lapsed since you last had any contact with the Memorial Gates Council.
Keeping Your Information Secure
We limit access to your personal information to those who have a genuine business need to know it. Those processing your information do so only in an authorised manner and are subject to a duty of confidentiality. We will also use technological and organisation measures to keep your information secure. These measures include password protected files, encryption and anti-viral software. We will notify you and any applicable regulator of a suspected data security breach where we are legally required to do so. While we will use all reasonable efforts to secure your personal data, in using our website or social media sites you acknowledge that the use of the internet is not entirely secure and for this reason we cannot guarantee the security or integrity of any personal data that is transferred from you or to you via the internet.
