The Memorial Gates are a lasting memorial to honour the five million men and women from Africa, the Caribbean and the Indian subcontinent (Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka) who volunteered to serve with the British Armed Forces during the First and Second World Wars.
The Gates also commemorate the contribution that their descendants and members of the Commonwealth family, continue to make to the rich diversity of British society. The memorial was officially inaugurated in 2002 by HM The Queen. We have established an Educational committee. Please click here to read more about it. Baroness Flather - 6 Feb 2024
It is with regret that we announce the death of Baroness Flather our Life President and founder of the Memorial Gates. She was the single person who inspired the concept of a lasting memorial to all those from the former Empire , Commonwealth and Nepal who sacrificed their lives in the World Wars of 1914-1918 and 1939-1945. We owe her a great debt for her tireless work and strong resolve in our cause. May she rest in peace. Click here to read the obituary of the Baroness in the Times. Our future is greater than our past. |
